OBITUARY.
The death occurred at his residence Caroline-street, Woody Point after a painful illness of over four months, of Charles Donaldson Skene, well known for many years in Brisbane, as a builder and contractor Mr Skene was born in Aberdeenshire 69 years ago. He was by trade a shipwright serving his apprenticeship in Aberdeen He came out to Australia in 1884, arriving in Brisbane on board the steamship New Guinea About a year after his arrival in Queensland he joined the steamship Governor Cairns as ship's carpenter, and voyaged to New Guinea, where he remained for several months On returning to Brisbane Mr Skene commenced business as a builder and contractor. Among the buildings erected by him were the Civil Service Stores Tritton's Limited George-street the Temperance Buildings in Edward-street and other well known structures. He was a prominent member of the Brisbane Master Builders Association was a leading Freemason and for several years was a member of the late Hawthorne Shire Council. Mrs Skene who survives him before marriage was Miss Ellen Patterson of Brisbane. Two sons — Mr James Skene Woody Point and Mr Alexander Skene, Morningside — also survive. Since his retirement eight or nine years ago, Mr C. D. Skene had resided at Woody Point, and had taken an active interest in local affairs particularly in connection with efforts for the benefit of returned soldiers. He took a leading part in the establishment of the Memorial School of Arts at Woody Point. Mr. Skene was a member of the Redcliffe Bowling Club, and the
flag on the pavilion was flown at half-mast till after the funeral, which took place at Bulimba Cemetery, on Saturday afternoon.
